View & Public Hearing Notice
Note that the March 7, 2024 Public Hearing has been recessed to obtain additional information from adjacent residential properties. The Public Hearing will reconvene at 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 4, 2024 and will be held at the Defiance Soil and Water Conservation District’s large meeting room, located at 06879 Evansport Road, Suite C, Defiance, Ohio 43512.
Per the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) 940.20, you are hereby given notice that a petition has been filed at the Defiance Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) for the Cuffle Drainage Project #23-03. The requested project is for the replacement of the failing subsurface drainage tile(s) beginning at the west parcel line of the Cuffle property (380 feet south and 150 feet east of the State Route 15 and Blosser Road intersection) extending to an adequate outlet near the intersection of State Route 15 and Glenburg Road. In addition, reconstruct the existing surface drain/ditch starting approximately 550 feet west of the Cuffle property line (near the Notestine property line) east to an adequate outlet. Work to take place in Section 36 of Washington Township (see enclosed map).
The Board of Supervisors of the Defiance SWCD has preliminarily accepted this request for assistance on November 21, 2023 and in accordance with 940.19 ORC, has set a View and a Public Hearing concerning this project.
The Board of Supervisors will conduct a View for the Cuffle Drainage Project #23-03. This view is to inform landowners about the proposed improvement’s location and the drainage issues intended to be addressed by the proposed improvement. The View is scheduled for Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. The View will be held at the Defiance Soil and Water Conservation District’s large meeting room, located at 06879 Evansport Road, Suite C, Defiance, Ohio 43512.
The Board of Supervisors will also conduct a Public Hearing for the Cuffle Drainage Project #23-03. This hearing is scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. and will also be held at the Defiance Soil and Water Conservation District’s large meeting room, located at 06879 Evansport Road, Suite C, Defiance, Ohio 43512. At this hearing, the Supervisors will present the Preliminary Report and hear any comments or evidence offered by any landowner for or against the proposed improvement. The Preliminary Report will be available for review prior to the public hearing, at:

Hard copies of the Preliminary Report may be requested by contacting the Defiance SWCD office.
As with all petition projects, all costs of engineering, construction, and future maintenance of the proposed improvement will be assessed to the benefiting parcels of land. If you have received this letter, the parcel(s) that you own are within the project’s watershed (drainage area) and your land will be assessed if the project moves forward.
A landowner may file, not more than twenty-one (21) days after the date of the View, an amendment to the original petition that expands the length of the proposed improvement, provided that the amendment does not expand the area to be benefitted by the proposed improvement. Also, any landowner receiving this notice may comment on the proposed improvement in writing before or in person at the hearing on the petition.
